Summary of the White paper “Healthy aging of humans and animals”
Healthy aging of human and animals, from cradle to grave, requires anti-inflammatory diets from new-born into old age to prevent development of low-grade chronic inflammation in the body. Low-grade chronic inflammation characterizes a wide range of chronic conditions such as type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases and metabolic syndrome characterized by high blood pressure, high insulin levels, overweight and high cholesterol levels1. Low-grade chronic inflammation is perceived as a pre-illness that may be growing unnoticed little-by-little every day for several years (animals) or decades (humans), often creating relatively mild daily bothers such as skin rashes, dry skin, muscle and joint problems, sleeping difficulties, and poor concentration, until a clinical lifestyle disease finally emerges, sometimes overnight. The pro-inflammatory, anti-inflammatory and inflammation resolving fatty acids precusors are primarely Arachidonic acid (AA, omega-6), Eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA, omega-3) and Docosahexaenoic acid (DHA, omega-3).
Product development and Food Safety
The healthy aging products Balanstri Omega3+ (humans) and Effektri (animals) are built from the same principles by combining sufficient, balanced and safe amounts of bioactive anti-inflammatories able to adjust any product or diet to become anti-inflammatory. We use only ingredients that are regularly controlled by Eurofins (www.eurofins.com) to be in line with the new and strict European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) limits since 2018 for environmental toxins such as dioxins and dioxin-like PCB’s, heavy metals and others in food and animal feeds. The maximum intake that will never result in any health risk was set at 2 pg TEQ (toxic equivalent) per kg bodyweight per week. The advised daily intake of Balanstri Omega3+ (humans) and Effektri (animals) will never present any health risk for humans or animals, independent of age, race or gender.
Our unique knowledge
A safe, proven method to adjust any product and/or diet to become anti-inflammatory is by balancing, protecting and supporting the fatty acids precursors for pro-inflammatory- and anti-inflammatory tissue hormones formation, as well as the fatty acids precursors for inflammation termination activities in the body. We use ingredients such as marine omega-3 (EPA and DHA), antioxidants from olive (polyphenols), the vitamin E antioxidant and the multifunctional vitamin D being active in both bone formation, immune defense and insulin secretion. Vitamin D deficiency can cause fatigue, muscle and joint pain, weakening of the arms and legs and an increased risk of osteoporosis. Normally, deficiency of vitamin D is due to a diet with little vitamin intake or too little sun exposure. The complementing dried blood spot (DBS) testing technology2 is used as an integrated tool during product development of 1) foods, 2) feeds and 3) dietary food- and feed supplements, to ensure bioavailability of the required precusor fatty acids.
